About

Let me show you what you're made of. I teach human anatomy and do a bunch of other things in my life. I thought I'd use this channel to share some anatomy thoughts and include some of the other stuff too. YouTube makes it easy to share. I produce 2 types of video: talking about anatomy and personal vlogs. There's an anatomy teaching playlist if you just want to look at those videos. Do not use these videos for medical advice. I'm talking about human anatomy, but you should meet with a healthcare professional in meatspace for proper medical advice. Never use a single source of information for learning and assume it is free of errors. Use multiple sources and your own brain. These videos are not endorsed by the university at which I work. I have a PhD, I am a scientist, I cannot offer medical advice.

Video Description

We can have a look at some more anatomy of the head and neck if we look at the anatomy of swallowing. We need to consider the oral cavity, the tongue and the palate, and then the parts of the pharynx. There are 3 longitudinal muscles of the pharynx that elevate it and the larynx during swallowing, and 3 constrictor muscles of the pharynx that start pushing the bolus of food into the oesophagus. There are a couple of important cranial nerves to focus on. Also, while we're there - the gag reflex!
