Syria marks 1st anniversary of al-Assad's fall with military parades
Description
Military parades were organized on Monday in Syria to mark the first anniversary of Bashar al-Assad's fall. Assad fled Syria for Russia a year ago as rebels commanded by Syria's new president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, seized Damascus and ended his rule, more than 13 years into a war that spiralled out of an uprising against Assad. "Today, we saw a military show. God willing, we will not be afraid of our army. Our army is strong, our army is able to protect our country," said Mohammed Asmar, a resident of Aleppo. "We can hardly believe that, in one year, we were rid of a tyrant who ruled for (nearly) six decades, nearly 60 years. This was a big dream of ours, and thank God, He has blessed us with this bounty," Abdul Ghani al-Mohammed said in Latakia.
