We live in a Kibbutz. We have a safe room in our house and generally speaking I don't feel like we're in terrible danger, but every time we go out on the roads, we are. SOUNDBITE (English) Stefanie Black, Amir resident: "I work in Kiryat Shmona. The city's not functioning. More than half of the people, the residents of the city are gone, maybe won't come back. People are living in bomb shelters, and a lot... I'm a social worker, I work with infirm people, they can't even get to the shelters, so it's really a very terrible situation, but it's nothing new. They've gone through this so many times in Kiryat Shmona, they're all traumatized from years of war. We'd like to see an end to it. I firmly believe in world peace, I wish it was something that everybody believed in so it could happen." 9. Couple walking towards restaurant 10. SOUNDBITE (English) Stefanie Black, Amir resident: "I say all the time, sometimes people do the right thing for the wrong reasons, and I think that this war was inevitable for Israel because we really need some protection from all the Iranian proxies. We've seen what happened on October 7th. We've seen what happens with Hezbollah. People in the north here live in constant fear that what happened in the south of Israel can happen up here, because it could have happened just as easily. From an American point of view, I can understand that there's a different position vis a vis the war. It's not something that's imminently dangerous for Americans, but it is for Israelis." 11. Tank on truck 12. Trucks with tanks driving away STORYLINE: Israel's military confirmed four more soldiers have been killed in Lebanon as its forces and Hezbollah militants continue to trade fire. An Israeli military spokesperson said Tuesday a total of 10 soldiers have died since Israel launched its invasion of southern Lebanon. As of Friday, the military said 261 troops had been injured, 22 seriously, in fighting since the start of the latest war in Lebanon. Israel’s defense minister outlined plans for Israeli invasion of Lebanon while speaking to military officials. Defense Minister Israel Katz reiterated the military aims to control the area south of the Litani River — some 20 miles (about 30 kilometers) north of the border between the two neighbouring countries. He said Israel will prohibit the return of 600,000 Lebanese who fled the area over the last few weeks until safety and security were “ensured” for residents of Israel’s north.
