Swearing, hitting and smashing anything in her path, Maryann leaves her sisters sidelined and her mother running scared. Jo is really the last hope to save mom Wendy, 10-year-old Marie and nine-year-old Amy from Maryann. Wendy is so fearful of Maryann that she has completely given up trying to punish her. Maryann lashes out at her sisters if her mother devotes time to anyone but her. She sneaks out of the house several times a day, forcing Wendy to frantically search the streets for her. Any attempt to enforce discipline leads first to a torrent of abuse from Maryann and then to mom being hit or pinched. The older daughters are angry and depressed as they are pushed to one side so all attention can be focused on Maryann. After observing the house for 24 hours, Jo sees Maryann constantly trying to escape, an epic bedtime tantrum keeping the whole house awake for hours and the most shocking trading of insults between mother and daughter! When Jo sits down to confront Wendy, it's clear that Wendy thinks that Maryann is the problem. To help this family get back on track, Jo introduces some brand new techniques. To encourage constructive communication between all three girls and their mom, Jo sets up a video diary room in which they can speak their minds. This opens a can of worms but helps mom truly understand where the behavior is coming from. Jo also uses a trust technique and a "reflection room."
