Initially, she earned accolades for her early achievements but in 2022, she became the center of a multi-crore corruption scandal. Singhal's case highlights the systemic flaws in the IAS. Despite her alleged involvement in laundering public funds and operating fake companies, she managed to stay in power for years, thanks to a system that rewards compliance over reform. The IAS is therefore called the most-organized Mafia. At the core of this problem are several issues - rampant corruption, frequent transfers, and a rigid focus on paperwork. All of which prevent IAS officers from driving real change.
