The Marine Corps has been implementing an innovative concept where it deploys an entire Marine Attack Squadron of F-35B aircraft on board America-class amphibious assault ships along with 1,800 Marines to create a "Lightning Carrier." These small and agile ships can extend the reach of the US Navy and Marine Corps and give Marines the firepower they need to seize or defend forward objectives, without having to rely on supercarriers.
