October 10, 1944. As the late afternoon sun beats down on the waters off Singapore, a Malay police patrol boat scours the waves. The captain nervously scans the horizon, replaying the stern orders from his Japanese overlords over and over in his head: there must be no repeat of last year’s humiliating Operation Jaywick commando raid on Singapore harbor. Ahead, he spots what seems to be a local fishing junk. Grabbing his telescope, he reads the vessel’s name: Mustika. Nothing unusual there. On board, a group of dark-skinned men wearing sarongs - just as expected. But the captain senses something isn’t quite right. Erring on the side of caution, he gives the order to approach the junk. Beneath those sarongs, fingers slowly reach for hidden weapons. Suddenly, gunfire echoes across the waves as a hail of bullets flies in the patrol boat’s direction. The captain and his crew leap into position. Those are no fishermen…
