Video Description
They’re known as the “Reindeer People”. Considered one of the most remarkable tribes on the planet, and only 200 in number, they can be found living in a frozen, deserted region in northern Mongolia. Longsince isolated from the outside world, these nomadic reindeer breeders have maintained all their ancestral traditions and still practice shamanism. Even in the winter, when temperatures can drop as low as minus forty degrees, the Tsataan live in modest canvas tents without complaint, insisting that they are happy with their way of life: completely free, and at one with nature at its most sublime and well-preserved. Their happiness and perspective on daily living offers a striking contrast to that of the Western world. But the modern world is starting to catch up with them. School, which has recently become compulsory for their children, is at the center of all their questions. What to do? Preserve their children from a philosophy of progress they consider harmful? Or educate them and offer the possibility of integrating into the modern world? These nomads know that they will have to choose between their traditions and the encroaching outside world, between their freedom and comfort. As they arrive at a crucial turning point in their history, will the Tsaatan manage to survive the meeting of their world and ours? A spectacular journey into a timeless universe, miraculously preserved. This documentary was produced by Sable Rouge and directed by Pierre Da Silva & Hervé Boucheaud.
