This offer is available for a limited time only — don’t miss out! In 1862, a ship appeared that looked like nothing anyone had ever seen. It was a low-profile armored fortress that could shrug off cannon fire, powered by steam, with a rotating gun turret that could fire in any direction. This single vessel made centuries of wooden warships obsolete overnight. In this Deconstructed video, we rebuilt this revolutionary machine in full 3D to show exactly how it worked. You'll see the engineering behind its 360-degree turret, the unique steam engine that drove it, and the engineering behind the low-profile design that made it incredibly resilient in battle and unlike anything the world had ever seen. We also created a highly detailed cutaway poster inspired by this video, revealing the ship’s interior layout and machinery. It includes design insights that didn’t even make it into the final video. Every order helps support the channel so we can keep creating projects like this. 👉 Grab the poster here: https://crowdmade.com/collections/dec... 🎁 We’re also giving one away! Just subscribe, like this video, and leave a comment below telling us: What surprised you the most about the USS Monitor? We’ll announce the winner in our next upload. Details below. The ship featured in this video is the USS Monitor, built during the American Civil War to counter the Confederacy’s ironclad CSS Virginia. The Monitor was the first U.S. Navy vessel with a fully revolving gun turret, a groundbreaking system that redefined naval engineering. Its decisive role at the Battle of Hampton Roads demonstrated the future of naval combat and signaled the end of the wooden warship era. The Monitor’s low freeboard and heavy turret made it vulnerable in rough seas, and it sank during a storm on December 31, 1862, less than a year after launch. The wreck was not found until 1973 off Cape Hatteras. Despite its short life, the Monitor’s radical design reshaped naval warfare and directly influenced the dreadnoughts and battleships that defined World War I and World War II.
