When Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was commanded to preach Islam openly, the Quraysh leaders tried multiple strategies to stop him. First, they attempted to persuade his uncle, Abu Talib, then they sought indirect ways to block the message, and eventually, they confronted Abu Talib directly. However, their efforts didn’t stop there; they also tried to ban the public recitation of the Quran. The companions wanted to challenge this restriction. At Dar Al-Arqam, they gathered to discuss who would be the first to recite the Quran publicly. Abdullah ibn Masud volunteered, but the others hesitated, reminding him that he lacked tribal protection. Nevertheless, he placed his trust in Allah and proceeded with his mission. The next day, he stood near the Kaaba when people were gathered and began reciting Surah Ar-Rahman in his beautiful voice. His melodious recitation captivated listeners, drawing them closer. However, when the Quraysh leaders realized what he was doing, they attacked him violently. Lacking the tribal backing to protect him, he was brutally beaten. Despite being bloodied and injured, he returned to the companions and, instead of retreating, declared that he was willing to do it again the next day. The companions, however, convinced him that he had already accomplished his purpose. Interestingly, even the Quraysh leaders were mesmerized by the Quran. Three prominent figures—Abu Jahl, Abu Sufyan, and Al-Akhnas—secretly listened to the Prophet’s nighttime recitation. Each night, they would stand outside his home to hear the Quran, though they tried to hide it from each other. After three nights of secretly listening, they agreed to stop, fearing public embarrassment. Yet, this demonstrated the undeniable power of the Quran, even over its fiercest opponents. Beyond trying to silence the Quran, the Quraysh also ridiculed the Prophet and his followers. They mocked and humiliated them, attempting to discredit Islam through insults and slander. Even when revelation was delayed, they used it as an opportunity to taunt him. This video highlights the early struggles of the Muslim community, the power of the Quran, and the failure of the Quraysh’s attempts to suppress it. Despite their efforts, Islam continued to spread.
