Description

Researchers at MIT and NVIDIA have developed cuTAMP, a revolutionary algorithm that allows robots to solve complex manipulation tasks in seconds by evaluating thousands of solutions simultaneously. Unlike traditional robots that test one approach at a time, the system uses graphics card processing to consider multiple possibilities in parallel. In testing, cuTAMP solved challenging Tetris-style puzzles that stumped other methods entirely, completing tasks in under 30 seconds that previously took hours. The algorithm works on any robot without training, automatically reasoning about tool use and obstacle removal. This represents a fundamental shift toward massively parallel robot planning.
