Doctors remember patients for different reasons. Perhaps something went right, something went wrong, or maybe they changed us as a person, and (hopefully) made us into a better doctor. This is one of those patients for me. I have changed details to avoid patient identification. I met this patient over 15 years ago. If you are curious about what was actually going on medically, I forgot to mention that I spoke to the family afterwards about performing a post-mortem to try to get some more information, but they declined. We never established the unifying underlying cause of his illness.
