Trump Orders National Guard To LA After ICE Raid Protests

President Trump has ordered 2,000 members of the National Guard to deploy to Los Angeles to tackle a second day of unrest over federal immigration raids. The US president said “the federal government will step in and solve the problem” after blaming Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, and Karen Bass, the mayor, for failing to stamp out clashes between hundreds of activists and police and border patrol officers. On Saturday demonstrators threw rocks and cement, and set fire to a car and piles of refuse in the streets of Paramount and Compton, south of Los Angeles. Officers responded with tear gas, pepper balls and flashbang. More than a dozen “agitators” were arrested for interfering with federal law enforcement, the US attorney Bill Essayli said, many of whom were accused of impeding immigration agents.
