Video Description

The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 were arguably the most important geopolitical event of the 21st century so far. Where they came from, why Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda committed them, and the historical context of the events are all factors that aren’t well understood by most people. I’m offering an online class on my website, SeanMunger.com, that will provide this context. This video is the first of six that explain what the class is, what you’ll learn and why it’s important. This video focuses on the big picture and the reasons why I’m doing the class, as opposed to making a deep-dive documentary on YouTube. The course launches Nov. 11. You can get on the waiting list here: https://seanmunger.com/opt-in-page-origins-of-911 There will be three more videos in this series coming before the Nov. 11 launch. There are many, many sources I drew on for material in this class. Some representative sources include: Lawrence Wright, The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11 (New York: Vintage Books, 2006); Yosri Fouda & Nick Fielding, Masterminds of Terror (New York: Arcade Publishing, 2003); Jason Burke, Al-Qaeda: Casting a Shadow of Terror (London: I.B. Taurus, 2003); Ahmed Rashid, Taliban: Militant Islam, Oil and Fundamentalism in Central Asia (Hillsborough, OH: Yale University Press, 2010). Opening music: “Wish I Would Have” by George Kay.
