The new XC60 clearly follows the lead of Volvo’s flagship XC90, featuring a beautiful and comfortable interior, offering a magnificent upgraded audio system, and protecting occupants with an extensive array of safety and driver-assistance tech. Our reviewer appreciated that the XC60’s City Safety system proved effective but didn’t take over actually driving the car when he could avoid hazards himself. The XC60’s powertrains all feature a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder and all-wheel drive, though a front-wheel-drive XC60 is in the works. That engine produces 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque in T5 trims, 316 hp and 295 lb-ft in T6 trims thanks to an added supercharger, and 400 hp and 472 lb-ft in T8 trims, which add an 87-hp electric motor to boost efficiency. Unfortunately, our reviewer found the plug-in’s mileage disappointing and regenerative brakes difficult to modulate.
