In this episode, we explore one of the most enduring questions of Roman history: why the legions that subdued Gaul, Hispania, Greece, and Egypt were repeatedly frustrated by the Germanic tribes beyond the Rhine. Drawing on ancient sources like Tacitus, alongside modern scholarship, this video examines the geographic, logistical, economic, military, and cultural factors that made Germania uniquely resistant to Roman conquest.
