Video Description

Are you ready to meet the Goblins? But what ARE Goblins? Mischievous spirits like goblins, sprites, brownies, bogarts, kobolds and pixies have deep roots in mythology and folklore. In this episode, we explore the role of these knavish creatures, tracing the origin of the word from medieval Anglo-French, and tracing survivals of pre-Christian pagan beliefs, and traditions stemming from Anglo-Saxon magic and the Celtic traditions of Britain and Ireland. We explore into the role of goblins as household or land spirits in medieval folklore and folk magick, often seen as protectors or pranksters which must be placated. Then I will tell a haunting folktale from English tradition about Yallery Brown, a goblin-like bogle. Finally, we see how to meet goblins in altered states of consciousness, sharing personal experiences with psilocybin mushrooms, ayahuasca, and the world of spirits. My name is Oliver Lavery.
