Largely because there was a 1-2 punch when it came to these episodes. Yes, there’s the reason these episodes were all banned, the fact that they’re about the discussion and debate surrounding the depiction of Muhammad, but perhaps more impactfully, somehow, was that these episodes took direct aim at the popular animated series Family Guy, revealing Matt and Trey’s true feelings about their adult animation contemporaries. And Matt and Trey pulled NO punches, even writing fake Family Guy jokes and taking pretty direct aim at their writers in not just the episode, but in commentaries and interviews after the fact as well. These episodes are classic for many reasons, but they also appeared to have significant impact on how people viewed Family Guy for years to come, so today, let’s look at Cartoon Wars part 1 and 2 and its lasting impact on how the world perceived some of the most popular animated series of all time.
