Where's Trump going with his ‘white genocide’ in South Africa claims? | DW News
Description
There's anger in South Africa over Donald Trump's confrontation with President Cyril Ramaphosa at the White House. The US leader falsely accused President Ramaphosa of failing to prevent the persecution of white farmers in South Africa, and made baseless claims that farmers face genocide. Trump showed videos and articles, saying they backed up his allegations. Ramphosa denied there's any targeted violence against white farmers, saying deaths are due to high levels of criminality in South Africa. He remained calm throughout the meeting. DW asked people in Johannesburg how they feel about the confrontation. 00:00 Ramaphosa calm during Trump confrontation 01:34 Oscar Van Heerden, Mapungubwe Institute for Strategic Relations 03:58 The two main theories on why Trump claims there’s a ‘white genocide’ in South Africa 05:54 Ebrahim Rasool, Former South African ambassador to the US #southafrica #trump #usa For more news go to: http://www.dw.com/en/ Follow DW on social media: ►Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dwnews ►TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@dwnews ►Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/deutschewellenews/ ►Twitter: https://twitter.com/dwnews Für Videos in deutscher Sprache besuchen Sie: https://www.youtube.com/dwdeutsch Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/user/deutschewelleenglish?sub_confirmation=1
