About

I’m Nadee and I live in a village in Sri Lanka far away from the city life. I dedicate a lot of time to my hobby which is making delicious food for my family. I love to cook local Sri Lankan food and the Indian which is from our neighbouring country and also the Arabic and the Malay food because Sri Lanka is a multi cultural country. Also you may see my own innovations as well. In this modern world, you might wonder why I appear to live like someone lived in the past. I prefer to live my traditional life because I believe by picking new technology over traditional methods of preparation, we lose out the original taste and the “soul” of the food we eat. Therefore I always try to follow traditional methods in cooking. So, I invite you to take a peek at my simple and traditional life surrounded by the lush greenery and rich culture, doing what I love. To me, the biggest happiness is spending time with my younger Brother also with my Grandmother and I really love that "Traditional Me".

Video Description

Wild black cherries (Ambilla) from our aunt’s garden are a delightful sight each year. The small black and blood-red fruits hang from the branches, resembling exquisite dots of velvet. Located in a tranquil corner of her garden, the tree transforms into a vibrant spectacle when the season arrives. My brother looks forward to this event annually; he approaches the tree with enthusiasm, carefully picking the cherries and enjoying them fresh, embodying the joy that only childhood memories of fruit can evoke. On the early morning that day, as the sun gently sets its golden rays on the leaves, we visited the orchard. To our pleasant surprise, the tree was abundant with fruits, exceeding our expectations. We gathered as many as possible. My brother expressed an interest in making juice, so I took on the responsibility of separating the fruits from the intertwined branches. The juice from the fruits stained my fingers, and the aroma brought back fond memories of our youth—those carefree moments when we would savor cherries directly from the tree, allowing the juice to trickle down our chins while sharing in laughter, our mouths stained a vibrant purple. My brother brought a large loaf of bread with the intention of having me prepare prawn toast for him, one of his favorite dishes. I made the prawn toast to make him happy and he complemented the meal with a strikingly vibrant drink made from wild black cherries and watermelon. Upon reflecting on the remaining bread, I decided to utilize it to create a dessert infused with wild cherry syrup, turning the leftover bread into a delightful treat. I carefully simmered the cherries until their vibrant color and rich flavor transformed into a thick syrup. This syrup was then drizzled over the bread, allowing it to absorb the essence before I enhanced the dish with a creamy milk custard blended with pineapple jam and a touch of orange juice to elevate the flavor profile. Using the back of a spoon, I created a swirling effect by mixing the custard with the wild cherry syrup, resulting in a presentation reminiscent of the serene blue and violet waves of the sea. By the time we gathered for dessert in the evening, the afternoon light had softened. My brother, grandmother, and I savored the dish together. The harmonious blend of colors, flavors, and the shared moment of silence spoke volumes, expressing our appreciation without the need for words. It felt as though we were collectively perched at the edge of a cherished memory—a profound sea of reminiscences. Love you All! Nadee © All rights reserved Wild Black Cherry season!
