In this video, I find out Will it START on this 60yr old Kenworth W924 Semi Truck that has been sitting for a few years in this paddock resulting in it sinking right into the ground. Powered with the 8v71 2 Stroke Turbo Detroit Diesel, over the years, in Australia, many folk would refer to a mechanically driven air blower device like this as a supercharger. In this application, its function however is not so much to force “boost” into the cylinders but to use the air pressure generated from the supercharger or blower to help blow away the exhaust gasses. It is the Turbocharger on this engine that is responsible for any real boost. These Detroit Diesel 2 stroke engines were used in a wide variety of transport, earthmoving and marine applications over the last 50 years and these will it start videos are done in a bid to keep their legacy alive. Trucks like this old Detroit Diesel powered Truck are becoming less and less common and should be preserved where possible in my opinion, hence attempting to find out Will it Start to make it a bit easier for the next person who can hopefully come along and rescue it!
