Woodturning: The Burl of Alchemy!

In this video, I take a gnarly otherworldly manzanita burl and attempt a level of alchemy I'm uncertain that no one has ever done before. I used gilding adhesive to coat the natural edge with copper powder and then activated the patina using an accelerator aging solution and heat from my homemade wood drying kiln. In the testing stages, which I showed over on Patreon, I first attempted this effect using bronze activating paint, which was apparently made for achieving a similar patina effect. Well, I was not able to get satisfactory results using it, in fact the results I did get were hilariously underwhelming. I decided to switch gears and attempted to gild copper leaf onto the surface of the burl. I don't even know if that's the correct terminology, but that was another first for me. Now, at this same time I was also using a DIY patina accelerator spray from a recipe provided by AI. Inconsequentially, I was able to get much better results achieving a patina on the surface of the copper leaf. However, I was not satisfied with the inconsistent coverage I was able to achieve with my laughably amateur gilding skills. The copper leaf did not conform to the surface of the burl as much as I had hoped, and that is when I realized that copper powder could achieve what the copper leaf could not while also not embarrassing me in the process. Essentially, I powder coated the burl with copper, and the commercial grade patina activation spray worked like a charm. Also, I'm not in the habit of tooting my own horn, but I'd like to give myself the highest achievement award for resisting the urge to put dyes and pigments into the resin. I didn't even tint it black! 🤯 Let me know what you think of this piece.
