This lesser-known branch line through the Zagorje region offers a rich blend of pastoral landscapes, modern infrastructure, and local heritage. Departing from Hromec, the train winds its way through peaceful countryside stopping briefly at Krapina, a historic town known as the cultural heart of Hrvatsko Zagorje. This section, especially between Zabok and Krapina, underwent a major transformation in late 2024, with a €15 million modernization project. New tracks, sleepers, signaling systems, and upgraded crossings replaced aging infrastructure, allowing speeds to rise from 20–40 km/h to a much-improved 80 km/h, cutting travel time to around 15–20 minutes. This was part of a larger €102 million investment to upgrade the Zaprešić–Zabok corridor for electrified operations at 120 km/h—integrating rural routes more closely into the national network. After Zabok, the train continues seamlessly transitioning into more suburban territory as it approaches Zagreb. The journey concludes at Zagreb Glavni Kolodvor, Croatia’s grand central station, where modern rail traffic meets the architectural elegance of the late 19th century. This ride offers viewers a unique glimpse into a beautifully upgraded regional line, tracing the evolution from quiet borderland halt to the bustling heart of the capital.
