Thanks to the guys at ChromeCars, I was not only able to fly on Chapman's very own plane, but also get the chance to see a comprehensive selection of his most famous road and race cars – up close and personal... The Lotus Black&Gold Collection is the biggest privately owned collection of Lotus historic racing cars and assets from the famous John Player Special Formula One era. Lotus won 7 Constructors and 6 Driver World championship titles, while the JPS Black & Gold livery transcends motorsport as an icon in its own right. The collection boasts outlandish design ingenuity from the twin chassis, to ground effect and early active suspension. Colin Chapman's obsession for machinery took many forms but perhaps it's his private plane that stands out as something quintessentially 'Colin'.
