#outdoors #jimbairdadventurer #wintercamping 10 Days Winter Camping in the Northern Forest | Life on the Winter Trail - E.1- Husky Dog & Hot Tents Snowshoes, hot tents, freight toboggans, and all winter camping gear loaded up, we headed north on a long trek to cross Northern Ontario's Temagami Region by snowshoe. I brought my sled dog - my Husky dog North. We'd be sleeping in hot tents - canvas tents with portable wood stoves, snowshoeing on this Canada outdoors survival stint in the Canadian wilderness. I was with brothers Xander Budnick and Maxim Budnick as well as my friend Nate Smith and we were trekking through wild country. The winter of 2022 / 23 has been a weird one and is set to be the warmest winter in Canadian history. Though we had cold temps as low as -25 and days of heavy wind, we headed out with a concerningly warm forecast thinking "at least it couldn't get warmer". In the coming days, we'd discover that we were wrong. Much of our route consisted of trekking on a frozen river where moving water means ice conditions are more unstable. In front of us lay some very physically challenging work, skirting open water, deep slush to negotiate, and a lot of probing sketchy ice. There were a lot of serious decisions that needed to be made on safety and our route in general.
