#outdoors #jimbairdadventurer #wintercamping Life on the Winter Trail | 10-Days Winter Camping in the Northern Forest - E.2 Our adventure continues as we take down our hit tents and wood stoves and begin snowshoeing, hauling our heavy freight toboggans. The weather was strangely warm and it even started raining. Ice conditions were sketchy at the base of our first portage to bypass a rapids. I had what looked like an old logging trail marked on my map and though we could take it to the next lake up. In the end, the trail was way harder and didn’t actually go where the map said it did. We got pretty disoriented for a bit before we realized we had to cut back to the river and the portage trail. Knowing we couldn’t do it that day, we just made camp right there. The next morning was a little eventful as it started off with Xandar getting his drone stuck in a tree. Then, the route back to the river was no cake walk and we had to lower our toboggans down a steep hill using a rope. Getting to the river, we realized it was open where it would usually be frozen and in front of us lay a steep portage trail that was going to take a lot of effort to complete. We all started worrying whether we’d be able to complete the trip in the 12 days we’d allotted.
