DIY Spray Foam Insulation VS. Pros – Was it worth it? (Costs & Lessons Learned)

I put DIY spray foam insulation to the test and compared it to hiring professionals. I first tackled my basement playroom using a Froth Pak 200, but I quickly ran into issues-uneven application, running out of foam, and unexpected costs. Then, for my garage ceiling, I decided to hire pros, and the results were night and day. The DIY method works well for small areas like rim joists or touch-ups, but when insulating a large space, hiring professionals saves time, reduces waste, and ensures even coverage. Cost-wise, a Froth Pak 620 costs about $1,200 CAD, but my professional spray foam job-including the garage ceiling, rim joists, and some basement areas-cost me only $1,400 CAD. With the added vapor barrier and better insulation, it was well worth it. So, is DIY or professional spray foam the better choice? It depends on your project size, budget, and skill level.
