Queue the “How Much did Mercedes pay you?!” comments, lol! Well I have an opinion, and that’s what the long video is for isn’t it? Hear me out. I mean it’s hopelessly inefficient, and slow. But when is a #GWagon any different? This to me seems like the only EV that understood the job, of replicating the OG properly. Most EVs end up missing something in the formula of the original car. First is design — were cars like the EQS failed horribly vs the beautiful #MercedesBenz S Class. Then the intangible X factor of ICE cars — go from 3RS to Taycan Turbo GT, and though the EV is faster — we could really care less. We want the engine and the engagement. And finally price: every EV is 20/30/40% more expensive than the ICE version. None of these ring true with the G580 — the design is just #GClass. Un-aerodynamic, purely based on heritage. The X factor of the drive, is properly replicated by the motors, off roading and the “G ROAR” electric sound. And the price? Just 2% more than a G500 — so less worries about residual values! In today’s video I cover: real-world range and charging, off-road modes (G-Turn, G-Steering, Crawl), on-road comfort and weight management, pricing against G500 and G63, and where this leaves the EV market. We will also discuss the upcoming “baby G wagon” or little g, and see what it looks like and when it’s coming!
