It’s part of the massive Chinese car surge that’s been occurring for the past couple of years and certainly comes close to offering class-leading value in the EV segment. But here’s the real question: can you trust a relatively unknown badge with your $41K? Does the EX5 deliver enough to make it a smart buy, or is it just a flashy experiment from a newcomer brand? We put it through its paces to find out – from daily driving to tech usability to range performance. It’s true that Geely owns Volvo, Polestar, Lotus and Zeekr and they’ve poured some of that premium DNA into this slick new EV, but Geely is still an unfamiliar name and brand recognition is something that can take decades to build – and a heartbeat to undo. Under the skin is a 60kWh LFP battery with up to 430km of range and it’s built on solid tech foundations. You get over-the-air updates, a clean and futuristic digital cockpit, and Geely’s own super-duper Dragon Eagle chip running the show behind the scenes. And thanks to Volvo's safety know-how, it’s also packing a full suite of driver assistance systems that you’d expect from much pricier European rivals. The EX5 is Geely’s entry-level offering in Australia but it doesn’t feel like a budget box. With clean lines, a high-tech interior and serious safety cred, it’s looking to carve out a niche against popular names like the BYD Atto 3, MG ZS EV, and Hyundai Kona Electric.
