Starting as a rebellion of Greek city-states, polis, in Asia Minor, this conflict grew into a full-scale war for independence, when the Persian Empire decided to invade Greece. In this video we’re sharing the course of these devastating wars, explaining ancient strategy and some of the greatest battles of that time, like the Battle of Marathon gave birth to the sport of long-distance racing, or the Battle of Thermopylae, that went into history with the legend of the fearless Spartans led by King Leonidas. This confrontation between the Greek polis and the Persian Empire was crucial for the power balance in the ancient world, as it resulted in the Greek cities prospering and coming to the peak of their power.
