Video Description

In this part we start from the very beginning of Alexander the Macedonian’s conquests. From his childhood under Aristotle’s tutelage and the legendary taming of Bucephalus, to the triumph of the young commander at the Battle of Chaeronea and his unexpected rise to the throne after the death of Philip II. You will see how, at twenty, the king swiftly subdued the rebellious Balkans, wiped defiant Thebes from the map, and united the Greek poleis in the Corinthian League, laying the groundwork for the greatest campaign of antiquity. Next we cross the Hellespont: the first encounter with Persia on the river Granicus, the resounding victory at Issus, the bloody siege of impregnable Tyre, the fall of Gaza, his coronation as pharaoh in Egypt, and the founding of Alexandria. This video is a detailed overview of the lightning‑fast march that turned the Macedonian king into a terror for the entire Persian Empire. #history #ancienthistory
