Interior designer and architect Emily Pun takes us round her East London home she shares with her partner, Jono – a once neglected Victorian terrace given a contemporary update with a calming palette and natural textures. The kitchen, redesigned with architect Marilena Walton, opens into a light-filled side extension where oak beams and sliding doors invite plenty of natural light and connect the space to the outdoors. Red and black reclaimed quarry tiles ground the room, while oak cabinetry and a central island add warmth and practicality. Just beyond, a butter-yellow powder room filled with carefully curated trinkets sourced from eBay features a bold burgundy stripe along the dado rail, adding a playful contrast to this small space. While light floods the kitchen, the north-facing living room leans into its limited natural light, painted in a soft mossy green and layered with natural textures to create a cosy, cocooning atmosphere. Upstairs, the main bedroom continues the sanctuary theme with a soothing off-white palette and a dramatic bed canopy that gives the room a boutique hotel feel. Floor-to-ceiling wardrobes provide discreet storage, keeping the space serene and uncluttered. The guest bedroom maintains this restful feel with a similar palette, enlivened by pops of invigorating yellow and smart storage solutions designed to make visitors feel truly at home.
