If someone sees one random video, do they instantly understand what the channel is about? If you imagine your channel one year from now: is it still one clear topic? or a mix of unrelated content? Is your first video aligned with the type of content you want to keep making? (your first video becomes your algorithm anchor) FIRST VIDEO (CRITICAL) Do you understand that YouTube builds your early audience mostly from your first video? If your first video is vague or generic, are you ready to get a vague, low-intent audience? Would someone realistically subscribe after watching your first video? SCRIPT & RETENTION Does the first 30 seconds clearly promise a result for staying till the end? If you insert the word “and then” between sentences, does the script still sound okay? (if yes, it’s probably a checklist, not a story) Do your sentences use “but” and “so” instead of just listing events? Have you removed everything that doesn’t directly support the main point? If 1,000 people see your thumbnail, do at least 5–6 click? If CTR is under 2%, do you treat it as a packaging failure, not a content failure? Can someone understand the core idea from the thumbnail alone, without reading the title? Does your thumbnail sell ONE clear idea instead of multiple messages? UPLOAD FREQUENCY (BEGINNER MISTAKE) After your first long video, do you give it at least 72 hours before uploading another one? Are you avoiding uploading multiple long videos back-to-back at the start? Do you understand that YouTube tests long-form videos one by one for new channels? Are you avoiding dumping many long videos in a single day? SHORTS vs LONG FORM Do you understand that Shorts bring reach, while long videos build loyalty? Do your Shorts directly lead into a specific long-form video? Are Shorts and long videos about the same topic and audience? Or are Shorts attracting one audience while long videos target another? (this confuses the algorithm) CONSISTENCY & IMPROVEMENT Is there at least one clear improvement in every new video? Or are you uploading just to stay “consistent”? Do you treat comments as feedback, not personal attacks? Do you track what actually made people stay or leave? ANALYTICS & EXPECTATIONS Are you comparing yourself only to success stories, not the failed attempts you never see? Do you accept that most creators delete or hide failed videos? Do you understand that YouTube growth happens in steps, not straight lines? When a video fails, do you treat it as data, not a verdict? COMPETITION & CLARITY Is your niche clearly defined, or are you competing with “all of YouTube”? If someone watched just ONE of your videos, would they know exactly who your content is for? Is your content understandable without extra context, even to someone from another country? Is there a specific part of your content where you are intentionally trying to be slightly better than competitors? (thumbnail, opening, clarity, examples — at least one) If YouTube suddenly showed your video to 100,000 people, would the right audience recognize it as “for them”?
