Lisbon is an ancient city with a rich history, founded by the Phoenicians and later invaded by the Romans, the medieval period saw Lisbon and Portugal invaded and occupied by the Muslim Moors for 500 years, before Portugal later entered its Golden Age of finding sailing trade routes to Asia and becoming one of the first European Empires. Lisbon is a city with a rich culture and traditions, like the festival throughout June celebrating Saint Anthony (Festas Populares Lisboa) which was on when I visited, neighbourhoods come alive with Portuguese music, lots of barbecues grilling sardines, and people in a festive mood! I also try some of the traditional Portuguese food like grilled sardines, pasteis de nata, a delicious custard cream tart, and the pork sandwich Bifana, the food in Lisbon is fresh and delicious! I also listen to Lisbon's famous folk music, Fado, which is beautiful and sad at the same time.
