On my table today is a rare vintage Japanese desktop lighter from the 1950s. Time has left its mark: heavy oxidation, a missing key part of the mechanism, and it seemed like it was hopelessly waiting for the scrap heap. In my hands, the lighter got a second chance at life. In this video, you’ll see the full restoration: cleaning the metal from old oxidation, coating it with copper and shiny nickel, and finally bringing back its golden shine. Interestingly, the mechanism of this lighter was used in various models of that era, including the legendary Ronson lighters. Some parts are interchangeable, and a piece from an old Ronson lighter perfectly fit, becoming an important donor and essentially saving this Japanese piece.
