Japan's Crown Prince Naruhito was enthroned on Tuesday in a ceremony that made him the new Japanese Emperor, a day after the abdication of his father Akihito. Naruhito is expected to be handed three sacred Japan's symbols at the ceremony. Japan’s new imperial era will be called Reiwa. The era name, or “gengo,” is used widely in Japan – on coins, calendars, newspapers and in official paperwork. Although use of the Western calendar has become widespread, many Japanese count years by gengo or use the two systems interchangeably.
