En 1229, Jérusalem, au cœur de conflits millénaires, connaît un répit inattendu grâce à l’amitié singulière de deux souverains : Frédéric II, empereur chrétien, et Malik Al-Kamil, sultan musulman. Malgré des siècles de guerre et de croisades, ils décident de mettre fin à 135 ans de violences en négociant un traité de paix qui redonne la ville aux chrétiens, sans effusion de sang. Un acte de diplomatie audacieux qui marque un tournant dans les relations entre l’Occident et l’Orient. Pourtant, cette paix fragile ne durera que 15 ans, et la guerre reprendra rapidement après la mort de leurs deux protagonistes.
