My brother in law found this cool old shovel head stuck in the ground. It's the perfect thickness to cut knife blanks out of, but the steel is no good for knives. Luckily, the issue of bad steel and the necessity of knives is a time old tale, and people long ago learned how to change it steel's chemical composition with carbon and heat. This blade turned out great, and holds an edge very well. It made my file dull when I tested the hardness of the edge! Few people still teach this process, so it's hard to find exact information on how to do it. I'm helping change that with this video.
