MODERN Chaplin Style Comedy Film: 'Ernest Caine'

A Chaplin style movie that I made a few years ago when I was at University with some friends. I hope none of you are disappointed that this video is not about antiques, However it is about a type of antiquity, music hall slapstick comedy. I got into antiques and antique clothing through my love of classic comedians, such as Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Fatty Arbuckle and Laurel & Hardy, and I'm appalled by the state of comedy today. The beautiful and highly skilled artform that was slapstick comedy is rarely performed by modern comedians, and that was the starting point for this short film. I wanted to see if this type of comedy was still relevant with modern audiences, in a modern setting. Armed with absolutely no money whatsoever, I set out to prove my point that slapstick comedy can still be funny today. I was young, I wasn't the best and I had no money to spend, but I put together this short 20 minute film (about the same length as the original movies Chaplin made) and I hope you find it funny too. Even if it is slightly cringy (it always is seeing yourself from a few years ago). I think I was successful in generating some laughs and engagement from the audience, but let me know what you think! The music for this performance was played by my friend and fellow comedian Mat Baker, to what he saw on screen. The original film has been slightly changed since this broadcasting, which explains any choppy music edits. If you're concerned about Ernest Caine's funny walk: At the time I was still recovering from leg surgery that resulted in nerve damage, I had muscle atrophy and couldn't walk without a limp (You can see I have a cane at the start of the video, too). I incorporated this into the character by over exaggerating a waddle, much like Chaplin's. Despite this I did my best to perform, and I find that the adrenaline one gets when performing really helps!
