There's been a strange trend that has constantly popped into my video feed for the last few weeks and it's the narrative that "unreal engine 5 is literally killing games." Well, I didn't know that, especially since I tested unreal engine 5 last year in preparation for STALKER 2 and calmly got the hardware upgrades I felt I needed to get an optimal experience. Ever since I have been enjoying games made with UE5. But I still took this argument seriously, and decided to get educated. An INCREDIBLE source on how Unreal Engine 5 works that was ABSOLUTELY instrumental in the putting together of this video was @DallasDrap , a fellow creator how makes UE5 tutorials for making video games as well as cinematics. This man is putting incredibly valuable knowledge out there in a constructive way and it's all free. But my journey didn't end with watching a few great videos, I also watched a few others, some equally good, some mid, and some that were straight up AWFUL, not because their production quality was bad, but because they were straight up lying, playing the victim, and channelizing gamers' questions about UE5 into anger that could be monetized. Not all to different from the "X didn't just die, it was murdered" trend of a few years ago. Ultimately, I came to a conclusion: No, Unreal Engine 5 is Not Literally Killing Games... but something IS going on with hardware and it's opportune for us to get into it and learn about it so that we can make appropriate decisions as consumers; none of which involve getting angry over things that are not true.
