Video Description

There are videos on social media introducing these kinds of weddings as traditional weddings in Japan. The first Shinto ceremony in the current style was held in 1900, when Emperor Taisho was married. At the time, Japan was rapidly modernizing and westernizing. This led to a new style of wedding that incorporated the idea of a Christian-style wedding, where you have god witness the ceremony. This means that this wedding style has only about 120 years of history. The real ancient Japanese wedding ceremony, which has been done for hundreds of years, was called "Shūgen," a ceremony in which the family gathered at the groom's home to eat a meal and drink saké. In Japan, the most important aspect of marriage was the union of family with family, rather than the pledge of something to God. Although the Shinzenshiki we have today hasn’t been carried down since ancient times, I really hope we can continue it until it becomes a traditional culture. #japan #japneseculture #japaneseculture #samuraiculture #letsaskshogo #wedding #kimono #shrine
