Our First 24 Hours in TEXAS Surprised Us 🇺🇸

📍Texas, USA 🇺🇸 We’ve officially landed in Texas to begin our Deep South road trip, and wow, what a start. Flying into Dallas, we were immediately hit with the heat, the sheer size of the airport, and those famously massive American highways. We picked up our hire car, which will be our home on wheels for the next two months, and headed straight into the Texan countryside on a mission to reach Waco. On the way, hunger kicked in... and then we saw it. A giant orange and white building that looked straight out of a children’s cartoon. Whataburger. Texas’s proud rival to In-N-Out. I tried it. I loved it. Even better, we met our first Texans inside, friendly, welcoming, and full of charm. Next stop? Walmart. But not just any Walmart. This experience genuinely changed our lives. One aisle it’s apples and toothpaste, the next aisle it’s rifles and shotguns. We had no idea where to start, but we had to get the car kitted out for sleeping, or so we thought... We made it to Lake Waco just in time for the hottest, sweatiest, most uncomfortable night’s sleep of our lives. No fan. No AC. Just us, the car, and 35-degree heat. Lesson learned. In the morning, desperate for caffeine and relief, we headed into Waco to visit For Keeps Coffee, a promise kept after meeting the owner’s parents in Italy. The coffee was brilliant, but the real highlight was chatting with Hudson and Brooks, two locals who gave us a proper Waco welcome. We finished our day with a wander through a quiet Waco neighbourhood where people wave, smile, and say things like “yes sir” and “yes ma’am.” We’re falling in love with this place already.
