pfSense | IPsec site to site networking setup | Routed IPsec VPN | 2021

This video update for October 2021 follows on from my previous video on setting up an ipsec site-to-site VPN with pfSense. Previously we setup an IPsec site to site network with multiple phase 2 entries for each subnet. Since pfSense 2.4.4 it is now possible to set up routed IPsec vpn tunnels with a single phase 1 and phase 2 entry, all additional subnet configuration can then be managed by using routing tables without the need to edit the IPsec vpn tunnels once created. This makes setting up the site to site vpn and subnets much easier, it is also possible to use plugins to configure subnets using BGP etc. I may do a video on how to do this if anyone is interested. Configuring routed IPsec can be run in addition to multiple phase 2 entries, but routed ipsec VPN makes it much easier to administer the system without breaking and having to troubleshoot VPN issues.
