Remaking a Vintage WW2 Wallet | Leather Craft

Video Description

I visited the National WW2 Museum in Louisiana and found a leather wallet that belonged to a soldier. As a leather crafter, I felt inspired to remake it, handmade, hand-tooled, with quality materials. I did my best to honor the wallet's original, vintage form factor, while taking some creative liberty to bring it into the modern world. The wallet belonged to a soldier from Louisiana, named James W. Oglesby, who joined the Army after the events of Pearl Harbor. He fought in Bougainville, in Papua New Guinea. What struck me about his wallet wasn't just its history, but the humanity behind it. Through leathercraft, I felt I could relate better to World War 2, through a tangible item that a soldier owned - an item that I understood. This video was made to inform you about the journey of a singular soldier, and as a portrayal of my homage to those who made sacrifices during WWII.
