I'm attempting to fix a PS3 Slim that has been previously inspected and repaired without success. I'm going to see if I can fix it. The console shows no signs of power—no lights, no beeps. When connected to the power cable, there's no red light or any indication of life; it seems completely dead. This isn't a case of YLOD as there is no light whatsoever. Upon opening the PlayStation, I discovered significant corrosion and oxidation on the motherboard, which could potentially lead to a short circuit. This might have been the cause of its malfunction. I plan to use isopropyl alcohol to clean off the corrosion. It appears the power supply may be the issue. I aim to repair this non-functioning PS3 Slim that lacks any power. There's no necessity to replace the PSU. A special safety torx bit is required to open the console. A schematic isn't essential for testing the PS3 PSU. Slim PS3 PSUs have two standard outputs: 12V and 5VSB (5V standby, which is always on when the PSU is connected to power). The large round pins protruding from the motherboard that connects to the bottom of the PS3 PSU are for the 12V and ground/return connections. The 5VSB is located on the small 4-pin white cable that connects to the front—or is it the back—of the PS3 PSU. With the 4-pin connector on the left side, the PS3 PSU pinout is as follows: Pin 1: 5V Pin 2: Ground Pin 3: Ground Pin 4: 5V Dust accumulation is a primary cause of console overheating. Excessive dust or debris clogging the vents can prevent hot air from escaping the console, turning it into a container of circulating hot air, leading to overheating.
