Rivian R1T Quad: What the Cybertruck Should Have Been

Let’s test drive and review the new Rivian R1T Quad Max electric pickup truck! And thanks to @XPELinc for sponsoring this video. The new R1T quad has four motors — one for each wheel. It’s a 1,025-horsepower electric supertruck that’s become a cultural staple, with a 0-to-60 time of 2.5 seconds in near silence. It’s got off-road and on-road performance and features (like all-terrain tires or staggered performance ones), including the upcoming Kick Turn technology. Rivian stepped into the mainstream in November 2018, when the company unveiled its first consumer vehicle, the R1T EV, at the LA Auto Show. The Rivian R1S SUV debuted with it, also powered by electric motors and a battery pack, and they changed the auto industry. Both of them were boxy, timeless, and different from other vehicles on the road. Their style was distinctly Rivian, with these long horizontal light bars across the noses and rears of the vehicles and vertically oblong headlight holes. Even if you didn’t know what Rivian was before the debut of these cars, which a lot of people didn't, you could easily pick a Rivian out from a crowd after. I drove my first Rivian years ago, when the company was new yet already well established. It was an Adventure Edition (not a Launch), and it fully convinced me of the long-term success potential of the brand. I was already pretty convinced at the start. In this video, we’ll talk about all kinds of things: technology; comfort; acceleration; the powered tonneau cover; the truck as a package and its range as a vehicle; the quality and interior in the Quad versus other Rivians, like the dual- and tri-motor versions; how easy it would be to win a drag race; the NACS charger that’s compatible with Tesla Supercharger stations; how much work it takes to crawl through the gear tunnel; who’s buying Rivians and why; what the outlook is for the brand once it’s older and on the used market more prominently; and why I may need a replacement key for my loaner.
