This is due to the fact that with beamforming, your router will automatically “steer” the WiFi signals that it broadcasts to the devices it is communicating with. In other words, you don’t have to do any of the manual “aiming” of your WiFi signals with the antennas of a non-beamforming router. So what does this mean for your beamforming router’s antennas? You should leave them vertically aligned (i.e. straight up and down). This will make it easier for your router to perform the background calculations necessary to determine the location of the devices that are communicating with it.
