About the Master - Over 4 generations, we have been walking the same path silently. Kim Jong-hun Master's great-grandfather, Mr. Kim Dae-sun, moved from Cheongwon, Chungcheongbuk-do, Korea to Anseong, Gyeonggi-do, ( 1 hour and 30 minutes south of Seoul, Korea ) and the 113-year history of the 'Casting' Master begins. In early 1900, Mr. Kim Dae-sun, who moved to present-day Anseong, Gyeonggi-do, started working at the ‘Anseong Yugi’ factory for his family. This is where he learned how to make ‘organic iron pot’ and the ‘casting technique’ to make bowls by pouring molten iron in the traditional way. In a corner of ‘Anseong Market’, which was one of the three major markets of ‘Chosun’ (the modern name of Korea), Kim Dae-seon started a cauldron repair shop very small in 1910. Later, his son, Mr. Kim Sun-Sung, opened a small foundry in 1934's and began to make castings in earnest. Since the 1940's the foundry has come alive and business is doing well. Kim Jong-hun, the son of the 3rd generation, has been in business since the 1950s. Kim Jong-hun Intangible cultural property has lived a life with castings for nearly 70 years. He is now 94 years of age. In 2005, it was recognized as ‘Korean Gyeonggi No. 45 Intangible Cultural Heritage’ by the Korean government. Currently, Kim Sung-tae Master is the son of Kim Jong-hun, an intangible cultural asset, and has continued the family business for 113 years after passing 4 generations. 2. What is Casting? Casting is the process of making a metal product of a desired shape by putting molten metal into a mold (mold) and solidifying it. It means to make the desired product by pouring ‘molten iron’ between the inner mold and the outer mold. In the video, Master's casting method is making a 'Korean traditional pot' by pouring 'cast iron molten water' between an inner mold made of sand and soil and an outer mold made of steel alloy. ‘Cast iron’ is classified as ‘cast iron’ if the ‘carbon’ (C) content is 2.1% or more. 3. The traditional Korean casting method is difficult. The traditional Korean casting method cannot be replaced by machines and only requires skilled human experience and advanced technology. However, the process of making it is so arduous and laborious that it may become a tradition that has disappeared in the next generation.
