So I Played Dragon Age Veilguard…

So I did want to give veilguard a chance, at least on stream, to give my honest thoughts about the game and it’s gameplay. And this game is boring. There is nothing at all there to give you a reason to care about the circumstances being presented. The story is crap. The characters are crap. The bright and vibrant colors used all the time, always is, not easy on the eyes. The only thing I will absolutely say here is that the world design; like the levels themselves are beatiful. I said it when we were live, these levels deserved to be in a better game. The world here was wasted on this terrible game, so was the IP itself, but that’s a given at this point. Veilguard’s story opens with you in the thick of it. You are teamed up with Varric, a legacy character from Dragon Age 2 and you’re on the hunt for Solas who is doing mystical magic nonsense and must be stopped. We don’t really know or understand why Solas must be stopped, at first. You know, for a game that hates it’s legacy so much, it really wants you to have played Inquisition… which I didn’t. I platinumed the first two though. And so the story turns out to be Solas, who has imprisoned these elder gods like centuries ago, decided out of the blue that he should now free them, to kill them, to make sure they can’t escape prison. And uh-oh that didn’t work, now these elder gods are free, so that this game’s plot can happen. I’m hopeful that it’s deeper than that but that’s literally what the dialogue tells us as per Veilguard’s story. The game does a horrible job of introducing you to the world, the circumstances, the stakes. Everything is just lobbed at you like data. Almost at a rapid pace. Which is odd, because for a game that moves so slowly with long winded, boring, cut scenes; they are racing through names, locations,... motivations. The game’s story is hollow, at least in the opening act.
