Recipe 🍒 Steamed Fruits for Black Fruitcake (Same-Day or Next-Day Use) Yields enough for 1 medium fruitcake or to refill a jar. Ingredients 2 cups mixed dried fruits (raisins, currants, prunes, cherries, mixed peel — your usual blackcake mix) ½ cup brown sugar ½ cup red wine (Caribbean people often use “red label wine” or any sweet red wine) ½ cup rum (or rum + brandy mix; some add ¼ cup falernum or port wine) ½ cup water ½ tsp cinnamon ½ tsp mixed spice (or allspice) ½ tsp nutmeg 1 tsp vanilla extract 1–2 tbsp molasses (optional but recommended) 1 small piece of orange or lemon peel (optional) 🫖 Method: How to Steam the Fruits 1.
